1. junija 2017 izide knjiga Beren and Lúthien, uredil Christopher Tolkien (yay, sem že mislila, da je nehal delat). Torej ob 100-letnici nastanka. In ker smo leta 17 in je bila spisana leta 17, tole pišem 17 dni pred uradnim izidom. Ha!

Založnik pravi:

Quote
Painstakingly restored from Tolkien’s manuscripts and presented for the first time as a fully continuous and standalone story, the epic tale of Beren and Lúthien will reunite fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with Elves and Men, Dwarves and Orcs and the rich landscape and creatures unique to Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

The tale of Beren and Lúthien was, or became, an essential element in the evolution of The Silmarillion, the myths and legends of the First Age of the World conceived by J.R.R. Tolkien. Returning from France and the battle of the Somme at the end of 1916, he wrote the tale in the following year.

Essential to the story, and never changed, is the fate that shadowed the love of Beren and Lúthien: for Beren was a mortal man, but Lúthien was an immortal Elf. Her father, a great Elvish lord, in deep opposition to Beren, imposed on him an impossible task that he must perform before he might wed Lúthien. This is the kernel of the legend; and it leads to the supremely heroic attempt of Beren and Lúthien together to rob the greatest of all evil beings, Melkor, called Morgoth, the Black Enemy, of a Silmaril.

In this book Christopher Tolkien has attempted to extract the story of Beren and Lúthien from the comprehensive work in which it was embedded; but that story was itself changing as it developed new associations within the larger history. To show something of the process whereby this legend of Middle-earth evolved over the years, he has told the story in his father’s own words by giving, first, its original form, and then passages in prose and verse from later texts that illustrate the narrative as it changed. Presented together for the first time, they reveal aspects of the story, both in event and in narrative immediacy, that were afterwards lost.

Zanima me, ali bo razširjena kompilacija (kot je The Children of Húrin) z opombami ali bo bolj izgledalo, kot da je poglavja o B & L iz različnih HoMe zbral v eno knjigo. In kako daleč nazaj bo šel, vse do Tevilda, princa mačk, in njegove kuhinje, ali bo vsaj to izpustil? Če bomo dobili leto 1917, bo zraven tudi to. :D

Zdaj pa moram še potožit. Uradna izjava pravi "Essential to the story, and never changed, is the fate that shadowed the love of Beren and Lúthien: for Beren was a mortal man, but Lúthien was an immortal Elf."

"In my ninety-third year this is (presumptively) my last book in the long series of editions of my father's writings, very largely previously unpublished, and is of a somewhat curious nature. This tale is chosen in memoriam because of its deeply-rooted presence in his own life, and his intense thought on the union of Lúthien, whom he called 'the greatest of the Eldar', and of Beren the mortal man, of their faces, and of their second lives.
It goes back a long way in my life, for it is my earliest actual recollection of some element in a story that was being told to me - not simply a remembered image of the scene of the storytelling. My father told it to me, or parts of it, speaking it without any writing, in the early 1930s. The element in the story that I recall, in my mind's eye, is that of the eyes of the wolves as they appeared one by one in the darkness of the dungeon of Thû.

In a letter to me on the subject of my mother, written in the year after her death, which was also the year before his own, he wrote of his overwhelming sense of bereavement, and of his wish to have Lúthien inscribed beneath her name on the grave. He returned in that letter [...] to the origin of the tale of Beren and Lúthien in a small woodland glade filled with hemlock flowers near Roos in Yorkshire, where she danced; and he said: 'But the story bas gone crooked, and *I* cannot plead before the inexorable Mandos.'"

Christopher Tolkien, Preface to "Beren and Lúthien".

Pojma nimam.

Mene bolj firbca, če jo bodo prevedli, ampak nisem optimistična, sploh če bo tudi pesnitev iz The Lay of Leithian tu objavljena. Kdo bo šel to prevajat?

Zelo lepo napisana kritika.

A tipo sploh še dela?

:) Če nekaj počneš, počni konkretno in vedno imej rezervo. Predlagam, da knjige daš na različne lokacije. :h14011:
